In this workshop Louise will focus on opening your mind to the vast variety of texture, mark making, mixed medium and methods of making an image. The only boundary to this is your own imagination, there is no rules and should be no expectations to what makes up a 2D image, (painting).

Louise will supply a piece of good quality, stretched watercolour paper for you. The board and paper will be yours to take away with you as there is no guarantee that you will have the time to complete the piece, allowing you to finish it at your leisure. It is better to take your time, to accept that it is worth giving yourself the chance to play and experiment and to benefit from the advice Louise can offer.  But it is very necessary to bring along a sketch book to try out mark making and medium combinations that you will discover during the workshop.

Louise uses a number of collage techniques and will bring along a variety of materials, tools and suggestions. Please being your own supply of bits and pieces that interest and inspire you.

Louise will supply glues and applicators also some painting materials. Could you please provide some painting materials yourself, eg. acrylics and watercolour. Louise will bring a variety of inks, and some Brusho, however if you have any of these yourself it would be helpful to bring these along for your own use.

Please also bring a variety of brushes to suit your own style and techniques, although again Louise will have a supply from which to borrow.

Day 1:-Morning- A discussion of medium properties in order to appreciate some of the medium’s attributes.

-A series of mark making experiments to practice the mediums properties and to find techniques that suit you. You will be able to try out the mediums that Louise will bring along. It is such a help to try these products out before you commit to purchasing them, mediums have to suit you, your style and your methods.

Afternoon-You will now start to realise the image that you each want to convey, using the techniques that were developed in the morning. This will take some time; the structure of the painting is laid down using collage and texture. This work can be completed at home in the evening if you have any energy left.

Day 2:-Morning- On day two will move on to the painting techniques that you can apply to the image. The first part of the morning will be spent developing and experimenting with some of these techniques and the mediums available. You will be encouraged to mix mediums, to find and then experiment with these discoveries.

Afternoon -Although you will work towards the completion of the painting it is the processes that are most important. The afternoon will be about containing and controlling the techniques learnt.
